Yay! for Yoyos – Raffle

Enter our Yay! For Yoyos Raffle

Today is June 6th  National Yoyo Day! (On account of it being Donald Duncan’s Birthday).

Did you know that the world’s 2nd oldest toy is the yoyo? (after dolls). In Ancient Greece 2000 years ago yoyos were made out of terracotta.

In the 1920s a man from the Philippines – Pedro Flores was a bellhop at a Californian Hotel who loved to carve yoyos out of wood and play with them, (yoyos were Popular in the Philippines).

An entrepreneur Donald Duncan saw the yoyos and the rest is history. Duncan made the first plastic yoyos and developed the Butterfly model (makes it easier to land the trick on the string).

After the great yoyo boom in the early 1960’s the Duncan family ended up in court (trying to protect trademark issues) and ended up selling the company to Flambeau – a company that is still around!

This is the world’s biggest wooden operational yoyo.

Finally! it’s Bubble Season …

 Baby Shampoo Version

Mix these together gently (the glycerine amount can be tweaked … usually will be about 1-3 teaspoons per litre).

Let the solution stand for 24 hours or so (to strengthen the “bubble bonds”) and have fun!

Please note: If you have a high amount of iron or mineral in your local water use distilled water (can buy at drugstore).

You can also double the amount of shampoo to make the solution more durable and thicker

Dish Soap Version

Bounce-tastic Bubbles

(if the solution cools and starts to gel … gently reheat in microwave for 1  – 2 minutes)

Thank you for a Great Day!

Thanks Everybody for a Great Opening Day at Little Mountain Baseball! We sent out about 400 Balloons! (Half of which we drove over in the van and half which we blew up on the spot).

Only one of our Volunteers showed up 🙁 (Super Sai!) but we would like to thank those 3 kind strangers that jumped in and started filling balloons and tying them up – we were humbled by your kindness – and your super balloon tying skills!

We also had one sweet young girl send her red balloon skyward to send to her Grandpa 🙂

We know that LMB will have a great season – with all the dedicated coaches, parents and players (700 this year!)- it is a fantastic organization.

We also hope our team does well – the team we sponsored last team was exceptional and had a phenomenal season 🙂

Thanks everyone!
