Mosquito Raffle!

August 20th 2013 is World Mosquito Day! To celebrate this day we are having a Raffle!

This is a day to commemorate Sir Ronald Ross’s discovery in 1897 that Mosquitos transmit disease. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has been celebrating this day since the 1930’s.

A Little about the Raffle:

  • 2 Net and Critter Sets
  • 2 Bug Bottles
  • 2 Magnifying Glassses
  • 2 Nature Explorer Sets
  • 2 Bug Bungalows

(50$ Value)

A Little about the Mosquito:

  • The males usually live around a week or so and the females around a month (depending on conditions).
  • There are around 2500 different types of mosquitos  and the females of most of these species need a blood meal to lay eggs, the male mosquitos feed on plant juices and saps.
  • Mosquitos species vary – some bite humans while others bite animals or birds, some bite in the day and others bite at night.
  • Mosquitos can drink twice their weight in blood! That’s like a 150 pound human drinking a 300 lb milkshake.

Rick Mercer has started a great initiative – Spread the Net – 10$ for each mosquito net donated.
